| DESCRIPTION | Course Objective: The course principally proposes the economic analysis of industry and attempts to describe satisfactory explanations of the ways in which economic forces operate within the industrial sector. The course hence covers the applications of micro-economic theory to the analysis of firms, markets and industries. Central to this branch of economics is the "Structure-Conduct- Performance" paradigm, which will be examined in some detail. Indicative list of topics to be covered: - Introduction to Industrial Economics - The Structure-Conduct - Performance Paradigm - The Firm and corporate Growth - Market Concentration - Diversification, Merger and Innovation - Pricing and Advertising - Monopolies - Foundations of Industrial Policy Suggested Textbooks: - Ferguson, P., & Ferguson, G.
