The study-unit also covers the main mathematical concepts in the area, primarily static and dynamic optimisation and set theory. The study-unit is also intended to equip students with the techniques necessary to conduct postgraduate research. Besides familiarising students with the core elements of microeconomic theory which form the basis for advanced work, the study-unit will also introduce students to a number of topics in applied microeconomics so as to identify and explore the issues and problems which arise in making the transition from theoretical models to empirical and other applied work founded on microeconomic analysis.
