Applicants must be in possession of:

Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications

  1. the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) obtained with at least Second Class (Honours) from the Faculty of Health Sciences in an area of study which should be directly related to the area in which the research is to be carried out or
  2. a Bachelor's degree obtained with at least a Second Class (Honours) in a discipline deemed by the Board as being closely related to the area of study in which the research is to be carried out or
  3. a qualification deemed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Board, to be equivalent to the qualifications listed in (a) and (b).

During the first year of the Course, students may be required to undergo an occupational health assessment so as to ascertain that they are fit for work which may bring them in contact with the clinical environment. Students who do not fulfil this requirement may be barred from progressing with their studies. Failure to disclose information about a physical or mental health problem that could affect patient safety is considered to be a serious breach of the University Suitability to Practise Regulations.

This programme aims to stimulate you as a graduate to continue your studies and increase the knowledge and skill level in the area of podiatry. The main aims of this programme are to develop your:

  • Ability to adapt and apply research methodology in a particular research area
  • Analytical and critical reflective capacity in the chosen specialised area of podiatry
  • Skills base from which they can proceed to advanced professional employment or further their studies in podiatry at doctoral level.

    * Study-unit HSC5111 starts in Semester 2 of academic year 2023-24 (February 2024) and continues up to the end of Semester 1 of academic year 2024-25 (January 2025).
    ** Work on the dissertation is expected to start in Semester 2 of academic year 2023-24 (February 2024) and continue up to the end of Semester 1 of academic year 2026-27 (January 2027).
     

    This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Science - M.Sc. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

  • At the end of the programme, you will be able to:

    • Apply acquired research skills and knowledge to your clinical practice.
    • Carry out a research project and produce results which are potentially publishable.
    • Communicate and interact with professionals in podiatric medicine and other disciplines.
    • Apply your in-depth understanding and advanced practical skills in a specialised area in podiatry.
    • Work effectively in a team and at a public or private health institute.

    Upon completing this postgraduate programme, you will be provided with the professional development of a podiatrist by enhancing advancement in knowledge and opening new areas of opportunities of specialisation in podiatry. At the end of this programme, you may further your studies in podiatry at doctoral level.
