TITLE Community Child Care Related to Practice

DESCRIPTION The aim of this study-unit is that students gain in-depth knowledge based on fieldwork experiences and literature review on child care areas including the following:

- The disabled child and the family
- The child with mental health problems
- The child with learning problems
- Childhood obesity
- Childhood asthma
- Epilepsy in children
- Paediatric oncology

This study-unit gives students the opportunity to choose an area from this list and work with a specific group in relation to the specific area. This work involves undertaking a literature review about the specific area, carrying out a needs assessment for the specific client group and analyse the extent by which such needs are being met through the local services. Short placements in related clinical areas may be needed. Students will be asked to carry out a case study in the process.

Objectives:

At the end of the study-unit the students will be able to:

- demonstrate advanced and updated knowledge in relation to the specific area
- provide a comprehensive needs assessment of the specific client group
- provide an extensive description of the services provided in relation to the specific area
- participate in the services provided in relation to the specific area
