DESCRIPTION This study-unit introduces the students to the basics of reflective practice and clinical decision making.

The students will be exposed to the basic framework of reflection and will address learning from experience and be introduced to critical thought and self-analysis.

Clinical reasoning skill acquisition will be encouraged as is continuing professional development through reflection (keeping a portfolio).

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to foster an understanding of the benefits of reflection, including learning from reflection.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
i. Use reflective practice as an essential part of professional development activities;
ii. Critically analyse ways in which reflective skills can be used to maximize on the potential of self to initiate change and advance practice.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to use reflective skills to critically assess the nature of current knowledge for practice and apply an action inquiry approach to develop strategies for effecting change.

• Keep a reflective portfolio
• Participate in workshop sessions on reflection including the application of models of reflection, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
