DESCRIPTION This study-unit is based on both lectures and laboratory sessions. It also includes some fieldwork in the clinical setting. In this way, students learn the basic competencies required to assess and treat neurological patients.

Study-unit Aims

By the end of this study-unit, the students will be able to:

Demonstrate a knowledge of neuropathology;

Demonstrate the clinical reasoning skills and the handling techniques required to assess a neurological patient;

Demonstrate the ability to formulate an effective, efficient and safe treatment plan using the above information;

Demonstrate the clinical reasoning skills and the handling techniques required to treat a neurological patient and progress this treatment as necessary.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to assess a neurological patient, identify the problems present, formulate a treatment/management plan, and progress if/as necessary.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to use the handling techniques required to assess and treat neurological patients.
