With a student population of 11,000, including over 600 international students from 80 different countries, and members of staff amounting to 4000, the University generates a significant demand for travel. Acknowledging this, the University actively encourages staff and students to use greener transport options.

In order to reduce its carbon footprint, over the last few years the University has worked to improve transport options, resulting in:

- custom travel information for university members

- investment in cycling infrastructure

- KSU public transport fund scheme for students

- flexibility & tele-working option for staff

- Car Pooling to University for students

- providing public transport discount for staff

The University of Malta has a travel plan in place, which is beneficial as part of the planning and development process and provides direction for supporting sustainable travel and reducing reliance on single-occupancy car trips. In order to review and update the travel plan, the University conducts travel surveys to find out more about the travel patterns and choices of our staff and students. Last Green Travel Plan Survey was carried out in March 2014.
