The Division of Rural Sciences and Food Systems is committed to offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in agricultural sciences, and also coordinates and conducts research that is specific to the needs of modern Maltese agriculture.  The Division's remit also includes assisting in the development of national agricultural plans, providing consultancy on the efficient use of local agricultural resources and pioneering modern and innovative agricultural technologies. In addition, the Division fulfils a professional advisory role and provides extension services to the local farming community.

The Division of Rural Sciences and Food Systems focuses its efforts primarily on the following subject areas: rural land resources, rural development, food systems, agro-ecosystems, rural policy and legislation, and landscape architecture.
