DESCRIPTION | Objectives: To illustrate the principles of economic botany Contents In the study-unit, one can learn about the fascinating world of what is in fact the human side of plant-animal interactions. There are various aspects of economic botany which include plant use in the preparation of beverages, sweets, tobacco, fibres, wood and latex, drugs, spices and herbs, ornamentals and perfumes, apart from crops. The use of safe herbs especially in various alternative therapy systems will be also illustrated. Another aspect that is gaining ground in recent years is the use of plants as nutraceuticals.
