Welcome to the Institute of Health Care Website
The Institute of Health Care was set up in 1987 to develop Diploma, Degree and Postgraduate courses in the allied health professions, with the first degree course in Nursing being offered in October 1988.
Over the years, other Diploma, Degree and Postgraduate courses were introduced in Nursing and Midwifery and other disciplines, such as Applied Biomedical Science, Communication Therapy, Dental Technology, Environmental Health, Health Services Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Radiography to reflect the health care needs of the nation. Courses are of high standards of education and training and are also recognised for state registration both locally and abroad.
The Institute of Health Care provides the knowledge and skills for the professional carer, so that s/he may contribute to effective decision making and policy setting. Besides the regular courses offered, the Institute of Health Care is also responsible for the running of continuing professional development courses for registered practitioners, ensuring that allied health professionals are kept abreast of the continuing advances in the medical field and related technologies.
The Institute of Health Care is on the forefront within the University of Malta in its international participation. Students participate in European Exchange Programmes which include Erasmus and Leonardo.
The Institute has fully functioning skill laboratories which are equipped with all the modern equipment intended to create up to date facilities for student practical training.
On behalf of both the academic and administrative staff of the Institute of Health Care, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to browse through this website. We hope you will find our website useful and do not hesitate to contact us should you require further information or assistance.
