Objectives
The University of Malta and James Madison University programme in Sustainable Environmental Resource Management (SERM) enables students to gain and apply technical knowledge to address complex natural and/or anthropogenic problems that impact the environmental condition with a multi-disciplinary, systems approach. The programme will motivate students to develop a broad international perspective that is culturally balanced and which focuses on the Euro-Med region. Students will develop these skills by:
» Analysing and solving real-world human problems
» Exploring the influence of policy on science and technology and vice versa
» Integrating social, political, legal and cultural aspects into technology solutions with systems approach
» Developing a technical skill set that addresses basic and advanced concepts of data measurement and mining, application of Geographical Information Systems, and modelling and simulation of complex systems
» Developing strong and collaborative skills that support interaction with diverse audiences and interdisciplinary teaming
» Embracing lifelong learning and creative critical thinking
» Engaging with a curriculum that is flexible and amenable to change in order to remain current with developing critical technologies and with the imperatives of a changing global environment and economy
