Kindly read this information CAREFULLY before submitting the application.
- Regularly registered students of the University of Malta are invited to participate in international exchange programmes every year in October. As a general rule students who are in their penultimate year are not advised to apply due to intensive work on their final examinations and dissertation.
- The duration of the exchange visit normally lasts one semester. Some scholarships may even last one academic year.
- Students must be in at least their second year of studies at University, in order to qualify for an exchange visit. Students need to apply almost a year ahead of their expected travel date. For example, first year students wishing to travel in their second year, need to apply in October of their first year.
- Before applying, students are requested to refer to the programme of studies on the websites of the international Universities/Institutions, so as to make an informed decision when marking their preferences on the application. Students are advised to indicate more than one University to which they would like to go on an exchange. The order of preference (with 1 being the first preference) should be indicated in the box next to the University’s name.
- Students are required to apply to those Universities which offer study-units relevant to their course. Students are required to seek guidance from the Dean/Director/Academic Advisor before marking their preferences.
- Students have to submit an ‘authorisation form’ together with the application, which indicates that the student is given permission by the Dean/Director to participate in the exchange programme, should he/she be selected. Students are allowed to participate in exchange programmes only if authorized by their Dean/Director. Students undertaking more than one area of studies, have to obtain two approval forms from their respective Faculties/Institutes/Centres.
- Applications should be handed to Marlene Debono, International & EU Office, Room 107, Administration Building, University of Malta. Students should ensure that the application includes their unofficial academic transcript together with the authorisation from the Dean/Director to participate in the exchange programme.
- Students are to retain a copy of their application form duly signed by the Student Exchange Coordinator.

Financial Assistance
The Student Affairs Committee awards financial grants to the selected students. Financial grants may amount to €2000 in cash or in kind depending on the type of bilateral agreements with the Universities/Institutions in question.
Health Insurance
Health insurance is compulsory for students participating in exchange programmes. With most Universities, students have to take out their respective policy and also show evidence of immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, and hepatitis B. Students are to check and confirm with their host institution/University that they have the required health coverage and immunizations, prior to their departure.
