DESCRIPTION The application of various skills in coaching outdoor and team building activities are exposed to the students. The study-unit will run through a number of theoretical lectures together with a residential camp, where the students will participate in specific outdoor activities including orienteering and trekking. Students will also learn about the use of team building activities to develop leadership, communication and social skills, together with ways of motivating participants through the use of innovative games such as ultimate and intercrosse.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at equipping the participants with the skills needed to plan, prepare and conduct an outdoor adventure activity and to deliver a programme of team building activities and innovative games.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- fully comprehend the values of outdoor adventure activities;
- identify appropriate places for outdoor activities;
- identify risks related to outdoor activities;
- establish the objectives of team building activities.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- reflect upon personal experiences before, during and after the activity;
- critically engage in the subject;
- design and conduct outdoor activities;
- organise and deliver team building activities;
- build team strength and unity;
- teach innovative games.
