DESCRIPTION The unit deals with the basic principles of fitness training and effective programme planning. The study-unit explains the process of initiating a client to the world of fitness, looking into "Pre exercise screening"and "Fitness assessment". Development of "Circuit training" sessions are also outlined. The unit also gives a basic knowledge of functional anatomy as well as an introduction to nutrition. The students work in workshops regarding different training methods for different clients. Tutorials are also held in order to discuss the outcome of the workshops. The unit also includes practical sessions related to the above mentioned topics.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims to give the students enough knowledge in regards to fitness training and safe and effective exercise prescription, being able to decide what would be the best possible training programme for the particular client in relation to his/her needs, goals, potential and limitations. The unit aims to provide the students with the tools to be effective and professional in the field of fitness training.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will have the knowledge and understanding of how the human body reacts to prescribed exercise programmes.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to deal with various clients' needs and goals in prescribing fitness training programmes.

ADDITIONAL NOTES A fee of €200 is due for this study-unit. The application is to be submitted at Room 203, University Sports Complex, Tal-Qroqq, Msida.

Pre-requisite Qualifications: SEC/Ordinary level standard of education and have obtained a grade C or better in any five SEC/O level subjects, including English language.
