DESCRIPTION This study unit attempts to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the quantitative and qualitative tools required to undertake research. It will also deal with guidelines for writing dissertations. Problems associated with data collection and interpretation will also be covered.

The topics to be covered in this study unit include:
- Guidelines for writing dissertations
- The principles and practice of research design
- Collecting and processing data
- Methods for quantitative analysis
- Method for qualitative analysis
- Constructing composite indices
