IT Services has launched the eduroam Wi-Fi for staff, students & visitors from academic institutions participating in the eduroam initiative. eduroam (education roaming) wi-fi is a secure, worldwide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
- eduroam allows staff and students to use their UoM IT Account to access the Internet from their laptop or mobile device (tablet, smartphone etc.) when visiting other eduroam participating institutions. This service is particularly useful when staff and students attend events or participate in exchange programmes (e.g. Erasmus) at such institutions.
- eduroam also allows visitors from institutions offering eduroam to connect to the UoM wireless network using the IT account of their home institution. Visitors do not need to be provided with IT guest accounts to be able to connect to the wireless network.
eduroam is also convenient for UoM staff and students to access the UoM wireless network. This is because once the laptop or mobile device is configured for eduroam access, there will be no need to type the username and password each time you need to connect to the University wireless network. All staff and students are encouraged to use the eduroam service instead of the browser-based Wi-Fi service.
Note that eduroam Wi-Fi is not as yet available at all University wireless locations.
More information about eduroam and instructions to help staff and students configure their devices are available here.
