DESCRIPTION | This unit will start by introducing the student to the concept of placement; students will then be assigned a place of work where they have to conduct 100 hours of placement. In the first year the placement will be conducted in Malta. A mentor will be appointed and the role of the mentor is to assist the student to develop practical skills in the areas of tourism, travel, culture and heritage related areas such as theatre, hospitality, transport, events). Study-unit Aims The aims of the study-unit is to teach orient the student to the world of work, to equip the student with life skills which will be useful later on in life. In addition students will be involved in worthwhile projects that will enrich their CV. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will have an understanding of the: - Work placement - Work dynamics - Administrative and supervisory work. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will have skills for: - Interaction with people - Communication - Life skills - such as assertiveness, working with others, responsibility of own actions.
