DESCRIPTION Students are made aware of the equal but sequential importance of Policy and Planning in destination management. It realizes the growing realization that there can be no successful tourism management without professional policy drafting and related planning.

Study-unit Aims:

A step-by-step approach to the policy setting and planning processes whilst bringing together a substantial number of the issues and problematics covered in previous years/semesters into a manageable framework.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

• Discuss and evaluate the objectives of tourism policy;
• Identify the influences and characteristics of tourism policy;
• Demonstrate knowledge of the structure of tourism policy.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

• Transform policy into reality through a successful planning process;
• Integrate tourism policy and planning and set achievable goals.
