Study-Unit Description

CODE LAW4011

TITLE Stage in an International Institution

UM LEVEL 04 - Years 4, 5 in Modular UG or PG Cert Course

MQF LEVEL Not Applicable

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT Faculty of Laws

DESCRIPTION This unit will be offered throughout the LLD Course in order to give the possibility to the student to obtain an actual work experience during his studies. The unit is not meant to substitute units which are seen as essential in the formation of a lawyer but is intended to make it possible for the student to bring to bear on his studies a work experience. The Faculty thinks that the benefit which the student can derive from such experiences far outstrips the disadvantage presented by the fact that the student will be absent for a whole semester from the course. The unit should normally be taken by the student during the LLD III Year and should in no manner dispense with the taking of compulsory units in the first two years of the course. On their return students should present an attestation from their employer confirming their attendance during the placement. The unit will be marked and graded on the basis of a report and log book on the placement. The Faculty reserves the right to approve the placement being proposed, on the basis of criteria relevant to the course.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Students must apply through a letter, for Faculty Board’s approval, attaching a copy of the institution’s approval of the traineeship. This must reach the Faculty Office by not later than the end of the registration period for study-units. Students are to note that no approvals will be given for traineeship extending beyond the end of the first semester. Late applications will not be considered.
