DESCRIPTION This study-unit discusses Maltese Law relating to the gathering and processing of statistics, including censuses. It studies the Malta Statistics Act as well as the fundamental principles followed by the Malta Statistics Authority in gathering and processing statistics. The composition, powers and functions of the said Authority are also analysed.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit is aimed at enabling students to study the laws regulating statistics in Malta as well as the competent authority entrusted with the compilation and publication of such statistics.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
(a) establish which are the applicable rules regulating statistics and censuses;
(b) understand which is the competent organization which play a seminal role in the collection, analysis and dissemination at statistics and censuses in Malta;
(c) list the relevant provisions of EU and Maltese Law on the subject;
(d) comprehend the procedure regulating the European Union Statistics system.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
(a) write on the laws regulating statistics and census law;
(b) write on the competent authority which plays a role in statistics and census law;
(c) write on the relevant procedures of EU and Maltese Law on the subject;
(d) write on the procedure regulating the European Statistics System.
