It is the global voice of the library and information profession. Our members are national library associations, libraries of all types (national., academic, public, special libraries), and library and information educational institutions (faculties, schools) in approximately 150 countries.  IFLA is an independent, international, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization.  IFLA aims are to: promote high standards of provision and delivery of library and information services, encourage widespread understanding of the value of good library & information services and represent the interests of our members throughout the world.

The Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche - Association of European Research Libraries (LIBER) is the main research libraries network in Europe. LIBER encompasses more than 420 national, university and other research libraries from more than 40 countries, within the European Union and beyond. Its remit is to create a functional network to systematically support and develop its mission to promote efficient information services, access to research information, innovative end-user services for teaching, learning and research, preservation of cultural heritage, and efficient and effective management.

The Malta Library & Information Association (MaLIA) was set up in 1969. The Association, run by an elected Council whose meetings are held at the University of Malta Library, aims to bring together and to provide a voice for persons in Malta engaged in the library, information and archive professions. MaLIA is a member of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), a founding member of the Commonwealth Library Association (COMLA), and a member the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA). MaLIA regularly publishes monographs and other material for educational and informational purposes.
