From Earth to the Solar System

The Science Students' Society (S-Cubed) is holding a photo exhibition: From Earth to the Solar System in the Library Foyer in collaboration with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The exhibition includes contributions from backyard astronomers, large telescopes in space, and even point-and-shoot cameras. The collection represents the current state of exploration as seen through the eyes of the scientific community. Beyond traditional views of the Sun and planets, the collection features snapshots of field locations on Earth where astrobiologists are engaged in hands-on research exploring the origins, extremes, and limits of life. From a river of acid in Spain to rock outcrops in Western Australia to boiling springs in Yellowstone National Park, these sites are crucibles of discovery that inform and shape how we explore, both within our Solar System and beyond.
This impressive assortment of images from exotic parts of the world and beyond was displayed for two weeks in the Library Foyer (Monday 16th April to Monday 30th April 2012).

Library Week

The UoM Library is celebrating Library Week between 23 - 27 April 2012. During this week the Library will be launching a campaign about electronic resources called Did You Know? The Library's Foyer is hosting an exhibition by S Cubed featuring NASA photography. What's more were inviting students to participate in an online competition with a chance to win an Epson Stylus SX130 3 in 1 printer. The link to the competition will be sent to all UoM student email accounts on Monday 23 April 2012.
Library Author Workshops

To: All Academics and Postgraduate Students
The University of Malta Library, in collaboration with Springer Publishers, is organising two identical Author Workshops which are to be held at the new IT Services building, on the following dates:
- Wednesday 9 May – 1400 to 1600hrs – Venue Training Room (TR) 003
- Thursday 10 May – 0900 to 1100hrs – Venue Training Room (TR) 003
The Speaker will be Ms Elisa Magistrelli – Springer Account Development Specialist.
The two-hour Author Workshop is aimed at academics and postgraduate students who are interested to know more about publishing their scholarly research on peer-reviewed journals and books.
The presentation will cover:
- How to structure an article
- How to choose a journal
- Traditional Publishing vs Open Access
- How are Impact factors calculated and what do they mean
Each presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.
We invite all those interested in attending one of the Author Workshops to register by email or to call: 2340 2052 by Friday 4 May, 2012. Places are limited and available on a first-come first-served basis.

Library Opening Hours - Easter Recess

During the Easter recess (Monday 2 April 2012 – Sunday 15 April 2012) the library opening hours will be:
Monday – Friday: 0900hrs – 1700hrs
The library will be closed on Saturdays and Good Friday (6 April 2012).
