Stavros Assimakopoulos is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Linguistics and (jointly with Dr Alexandra Vella) Academic Coordinator for the Linguistics Programme at the University of Malta. He is additionally affiliated with the Department of Philosophy I of the University of Granada, as a member of the project FF12010-15704 funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
His research lies in the interface of linguistics, philosophy and cognitive psychology and focuses on the implications that cognitive approaches to inferential pragmatics carry for the study of linguistic meaning. Apart from the general discussion of the mental underpinnings of human linguistic knowledge, more specific topics he has investigated include lexical/conceptual semantics, context selection processes, figurative language, drama translation and logical constants.
