| DESCRIPTION | Students are exposed, for a total of 60 hours, to a more intensive work environment experience in order to consolidate and expand their previous experience with new situations and new challenges, and for a longer period of time. The placement will train the students to function with confidence in the job market and the professional world. In order to cater for the contingency that, for some reason, no placements are available a student, a mini-project with a practical, work oriented content will be assigned. Study-unit Aims - exposure to a practical, real life industrial and business environment - familiarisation with the opportunities that exist for careers in ICT - development of contacts which might be useful for a career - enhancment of employability opportunities - participation in the day-to-day running and operation of a company/agency Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - develop a willingness to face practical solutions to work related problems; - develop a capacity to undertake duties required for employment; - identify possible future careers in ICT and HLT-related areas 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - put theoretical knowledge of Human Language Technology in the context of the requirements of a work environment; - make use of their experience of a real work environment to inform future decisions about research; - evaluate and report upon the requirements and challenges of a professional career.
