| DESCRIPTION | Lectures and content analysis of different kinds of information (ranging from adverts to research reports and surveys) and news output. Written assignments will be set for both components. Students will be asked to research the ownership structures of information and news sources, their relationship with other institutions in society, the complex process that shapes news and information and the impact that vested interests, institutional frameworks, resources have on the quality of information and news provided. By the end of the credit students should be in a position to analyse critically and with a healthy scepticism the information and the news they consume and also understand that as receivers of information they also shape the messages that they get by organizing them in their worldview. |
