DESCRIPTION This study-unit summarises and expands the knowledge of the students about different types of institutions from the information sector. Special attention will be paid to similarities and differences of institutional settings, tasks and challenges. Topics which will be covered include:

- Introduction to information sectors.
- Libraries. National libraries.
- Academic and school libraries. Digital repositories.
- Special libraries.
- Archives.
- Audio archives.
- Museums.
- Publishing industry.
- Models of value and impact in the information sector.
- Voluntary initiatives and quality.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims to synthesize and expand knowledge about different types of memory institutions and their specific mandates, organisational structures and relationships with stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Analyze aims, structures, policies and activities of institutions from the information sector.
- Understand the models of impact and value currently used in the information sector and their relevance to knowledge economy.
- Make comparative analysis of different institutions from the sector.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Differentiate institutional structures and workflows.
- Distinguish triggers for policy decisions.
- Question tasks within workflows.
- Propose quality indicators.
