DESCRIPTION This study-unit looks at the globalisation of media systems and how they report countries and events by mainly keeping their core markets in mind.

Lectures will be based on case studies from media history and contemporary news organizations that are based in various parts of the world.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of the study-unit is to equip students with the necessary knowledge to understand the impact of globalization, convergence and connectivity on journalists.

Students will also focus on the challenges and opportunities for media systems in small states.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to provide a written analysis of the relationship between the production of news and political economic forces, within the nexus of globalization and technological advancement.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will:
- Be able to keep one step ahead of the media;
- Be able to compare media systems;
- Be critical of media structures and content;
- Be a citizen journalist.
