The aim of this course is to prepare students to become cultural managers in the area of Mediterranean Civilisation. It is useless for people to speak about Mediterranean unity if there is not a pool of specialists who are well versed in the history of this region. Culture can be both a divisive as well as a unifying factor. Unfortunately, in these last years, culture has been used as a means for division by various groups. The Mediterranean Institute considers this as false.  Culture is a unifying factor but one has to build on teaching the unifying philosophy behind what may apparently seem divisive elements.

The Mediterranean Institute is collaborating with OTSF (Old Temples Study Foundation) of America in the creation of a new international Master Programme focusing on the study of Early Mediterranean Civilisations. This  International Masters Programme will offer a neat and fresh perspective to the art and architecture of the pre-classical Mediterranean world. It will focus upon the visual record of the Phoenicians, ancient Cyprus and Cycladic cultures, Minoans, Canaanites, and Malta’s mysterious Neolithic 'Temple Culture'. Aspects of ancient music, drama, language and religion will be introduced to encourage a multi-disciplinary understanding of the region as it developed before the better documented eras and students will also look at how some practices seem to have crossed ancient cultures.
