UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM IN FAMILY MEDICINE

The legitimacy of Family Medicine lies not in the ownership of disease entities or social units, but in the world-view of interrelatedness, which the specialty reintroduces into medicine.

On one hand the undergraduate curriculum must be integrated with the present structure and philosophy of the whole curriculum of the Medical School and on the other it has to direct further development and commitment of resources into the new area of Family Medicine.

The programme is intended to provide the student with integrated training and experience in the second of the three clinical years of medical school during which the Department contributes to theoretical teaching and offers clinical attachments within Family Practices in the community. The student involvement in family medicine is designed to increase in duration, complexity and degree of participation.
