Learning outcomes and competency framework
The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery is in the process of developing a set of core learning outcomes and competences that will need to be achieved by students at the end of their five-year MD degree course of studies. A draft document based on the recommendations of the EU TUNING Project for Medicine has been drawn up for general and wide consultation, if possible beyond the Faculty itself.
It is planned to adopt the final document formally as the raison d’être, framework and reference point of all teaching and assessment related to the undergraduate programme of studies of the Faculty. Such a document would also serve as a basic structure for programme planners, teachers and students to add additional learning outcomes and competences according to their needs.
Formulation of the declared outcomes is a dynamic process, and feedback from all stakeholders is essential if this document is to be adopted as basis of all teaching programmes. I should like to invite you to take time go through the document in order to provide valuable feedback and comments as you deem fit.
You may also wish to discuss this document with persons and organisations who you believe are able to provide valid evaluation and advice: including members of the general public and professional organisations that you may belong to.
Please forward your comments by email or in writing to Mr Benny Borg Bonello or to myself by Friday 8 January 2010.
The document may be downloaded from here. [PDF]
