| 24 Apr | Health Sciences Library Notice Exams are approaching and the amount of patrons visiting the Library for research and study increases substantially. In this regard, the librarians of the Health Sciences Library want you to feel comfortable while pursuing your studies in our buildings. The following rules are intended to balance the needs of the Library with the convenience to our users. - Observe the silent study areas and be considerate of others by helping to maintain an atmosphere of quiet.
- Food or drink, including coffee (except water) is not allowed in the Library. Food and drink can damage library material, equipment and furnishings, and it may disturb other library users.
- No bags, laptop cases or plastic bags are allowed inside the library. Valuable items such as wallets, mobile phones, tablets etc. should not be left unattended. Please note that the library is not responsible for any lost or missing items.

The aim of this workshop is to provide an overview of Emerald's experience of working with the editors and authors of almost 200 journals and 2,000 book series. The workshop will also highlight the benefits of publishing in an international journal, the publication process, advice for authors on preparing and submitting manuscripts, the review process, and an overview of resources available.

Access to these two databases is available via UoM Library website by searching through Articles & Databases or clicking the E-Library icon. These databases fall under the subcategory of Chemistry.
ChemSpider ChemSpider is a free chemical structure database providing fast access to over 28 million structures and properties. By integrating and linking compounds from more than 400 data sources, ChemSpider enables researchers to discover the most comprehensive view of freely available chemical data from a single online search. It is owned by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
PubChem PubChem was released in 2004. It provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. PubChem is organized as three linked databases within the NCBI's information retrieval system. These are PubChem Substance, PubChem Compound, and PubChem BioAssay.

| 20 Mar | LIBRARY WORKSHOP NOTICE NEW TIMETABLES FOR THE E-LIBRARY AND REFWORKS SESSIONS FOR APRIL 2013 The University of Malta (UoM) Library is dedicated to providing first rate instruction and workshops to students, academics and support staff on Library resources and services. The Library offers two different workshops, e-Library and Refworks, that will be delivered throughout the academic year. The goal of Library Instruction is to develop your competence in finding, selecting and using the information resources needed for specific assignments, reports, or dissertations. Training sessions are limited to small groups so that individual attention is guaranteed. During the e-Library session, you will learn how to access the Library's online resources and use the information in the context of your studies. RefWorks sessions will assist you on how to enter different types of references (articles, books, reports) into RefWorks, which then can be used for creating bibliographies for dissertations, long essays, papers and assignments.
Building a Bibliography Duration of both sessions is that of 1 hour 30 minutes. A set timetable dedicated to workshops is provided on the Library webpage. | 05 Mar | The University of Malta Library, in collaboration with the US Embassy, is organizing a training workshop on eLibraryUSA. This workshop is going to be held on Monday 18 March 14:00 at IT Services TR108. eLibraryUSA contains a vast range of online resources about the Arts, Culture, Business, Education, Health, Science and Technology. The workshop will start by outlining all the databases in eLibraryUSA and will focus on using one particular database called Academic OneFile which is an up-to-date and easy-to-use resource for academic research. Academic OneFile contains 13,000 full-text journals; hence it effortlessly delivers quality content to academics, students, scholars and other researchers. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly. Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive since it has extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects. Before accessing eLibrary USA, a registration via email is required in order to be provided with a password to log in. This procedure takes a couple of days. On Wednesday 5 December 2012, the University of Malta Library is going to participate in Libraries Day. This Libraries Day is being organized by the Malta Libraries Council (MLC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Employment and the Schools' Library Service. The main objective of Libraries Day is to raise awareness of the importance of libraries and the role they have in the promotion of democracy and in providing access to information, education and recreation. Activities Held in the Library Foyer Pin up your Comments! A notice board will be set up in the Library Foyer. Students can write their comments, suggestions or questions in the already prepared forms which can be found near the notice board. The submissions must be all related in one way or another to the Main Library, its branches and services. Comments, suggestions or questions can be anonymous since students can opt not to write their email address. Kindly note that the Medical School is organizing a Jeans Day whereby donations will be collected in aid of "L-Istrina".
The Jeans Day will be held on Tuesday 20th November 2012 and donations will be collected in between lectures.
We will keep receiving donations up till 27th November 2012. Donations after 20th November 2012 may be handed in at the Faculty Office at Medical School, Mater Dei Hospital and also at the Faculty Office on campus whereby there will be the official Community Chest Fund piggy bank.
A cheque will then be presented to His Excellency President Dr George Abela during the opening of the VIII Malta Medical School Conference on 29th November 2012.

| 31 Oct | LECTURE ON ACUPUNCTURE AND OBESITY
A public lecture on Acupuncture and Obesity organised jointly by the Confucius Institute at the University of Malta and the Maltese Oriental Society will be given by Dr. Ma, Head of the Mediterranean Regional Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine, on the 13th November 2012, from 18.30 to 19.30, at the Archaeology Centre, Car Park 6, University of Malta.
This lecture is aimed to help local people understand the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine. During the lecture Dr. Ma will explain what acupuncture is, the benefits of acupuncture in treating obesity, and how it works.
