At the end of September, 2013 the premiere of a new scenic-musical realisation of the known Greek play of Antigone by Sophocles is planned in Malta.
The music is composed by Albert Pace and the scenic direction is by the mime artist and actor Milan Sladek from Germany/ Slovakia, who will himself play all the roles of the play. The production will include a German orchestra, a designer from the State Opera of Bratislava, Maltese Vocal Soloists and choir.
The venue for the production will be either the new open theatre in Valletta or the ditch performance space in Mdina.
The production requires a mime choir in the form of a group of students, who will be rehearsed and integrated into the production. The group will be expected to move well, be expressive and enjoy working creatively.
Milan Sladek will be in Malta from 30 May for a free 3-day workshop for students who are interested in participating in the production. As an introduction to the workshop, Sladek will give a demonstration of his work as a mime artist.
After the final selection of participants, there will be the following rehearsal phases:
26 August – 6 September
9 September – 15 September
The final rehearsal phase before the performances dates will start from 20 September.
Date of the performances: 26, 27, 28 September
There will be a small honorarium for the selected participants.
