The University of Malta Library is proud to announce the launching of the enhanced and redesigned Library homepage at

http://www.um.edu.mt/library

The new homepage reflects the Library’s commitment to providing patrons with information and tools encompassing print and electronic resources, with more content and less clicks.  It welcomes patrons with a clean, focused design and features dedicated to our services.

Some important features include:

  • The Search tab for Books – enables you to search the Library’s online catalogue comprising print material
  • The Search tab for Journals – permits you to locate your preferred journal, being print or electronic
  • The Articles & Databases tab – allows you to search across a number of databases simultaneously.  Patrons can list databases related to different subjects by category or search for specific database by name, for example JSTOR, SpringerLink.
  • The Internet tab – provides you with a quick search through Google Scholar

We invite you to utilise these search tools which give you access to a mine of information from a  consolidated environment.

New Library Subscription

The University of Malta Library is pleased to announce the much awaited database ScienceDirect.   This online resource contains full-text access to some 1,800 journals from 2007 to the present.

ScienceDirect is divided into 24 subject areas, the most important being Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Business, Management and Accounting, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing and Health Professions, Psychology and Social Sciences.
Patrons can view journal title lists alphabetically or by subject. The journals are marked by a green key next to their titles when browsing.  An additional number of journals marked by a pale green key are available in abstract format. ScienceDirect also provides three search options, namely simple, advanced and expert.  Searches can also be narrowed by date and subject.

In addition, the University Library subscribed to the Cell Press journals from Elsevier.  This collection provides access to flagship journals such as Cell, Neuron, Molecular Cell and Cancer Cell.

Users can access ScienceDirect including the Cell Press collection remotely and from campus.  The database can be accessed via

http://www.um.edu.mt/library

by typing in ScienceDirect in the Find database by Title text field under the Articles and Databases tab.
