Discover University - Open Week 2012
Monday, 5 to Saturday, 10 November

To showcase the University of Malta as a large and prestigious institution that is
proud of its past, confident of its continued relevance in today’s world
whilst always looking forward to shaping its own and the country’s future.

Discover University! Open Week 2012 will be held in November. The decision to change the month from March to November was taken in view of the feedback obtained both from University staff and from the secondary schools, through the Education Department. The event will be open to all secondary school children and activities will be held at the Msida Campus, the Valletta Campus as well as the Gozo Campus.

Last year, the response from all the faculties, institutes and centres was simply fantastic. The system of appointing a delegate from each entity worked very well and I would ask that the same arrangement be adopted this year.  As the event will now be happening at the beginning of the next academic year, the full programme will have to be made ready early so as to be in time to inform the secondary schools.  In fact, we would like to start meeting delegates as soon as possible to discuss participation.

We shall now have more time to publicise the event which we feel sure will increase greatly the number of students attending the activities. There will also be a solid promotional campaign in the media and through advertising. The Education Directorates will shortly be issuing a notice about the event to all secondary schools (government, church and independent).

The set up will be similar to last year with one main pavilion in Car Park 4 with internal zones of activity and a performance space on the Atriju Vassalli for cultural activities under cover, organised in conjunction with DegreePlus, Music Studies, Dance Studies and Junior College, as well as for sporting activities.  Lecture rooms will be utilised for presentations and talks and there will be organised visits to laboratories and to the Library as well as tours which will include exhibitions and presentations. The Canteen facilities will be available for visitors.

Participation by all University entities will ensure the success of this event.
