Traditional Chinese Medicine Summer School (Deadline: 7 Jun.)
Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHTCM) in China is inviting the students at the University of Malta to participate in their Summer School with scholarship.
The Students on scholarship bear the cost of their return ticket. SHTCM will pay for accommodation (in double room), board (in student canteen), as well as the admission fees for the places to visit.
Period of Summer School: 30 June - 26 July 2013
Application Deadline: 7 June 2013
Eligibility: students who are recommended by the Home University
Application Procedure:
1. Fill in the application form
2. Submit the completed application form to Ms Lucy Hart.
3. Within three days after receiving the letter of the acceptance, the students should send 500 RMB (Chinese currency) registration fee to the University’s bank account.
4. 500 RMB registration fee will be refunded to the students when they have registered on time and completed the Summer School Course.

Scholarships in the Arabic Language 2013 (Deadline: 14 Jun.)
For Maltese citizens only
The Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education is offering scholarships to Maltese students who wish to follow an intensive course in the Arabic language. The course is being organized by the Bourguiba Institute for the period 3 July 2013 to 3 August 2013 Preliminary registration must be made on the website. Further information is also available through the same website.
Applicants have to apply either through the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Scholarship portal www.scholarships.gov.mt, kindly note that this portal requires an e-ID certification. E-ID registration details may be obtained from www.mygov.mt or alternatively application forms are available from the Ministry’s own Website. These are to be submitted to the Scholarships Section at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Palazzo Parisio, Merchants Street, Valletta.
The deadline to submit all documentation is by not later than noon of Friday 14 June 2013.
Successful candidates may be required to enter into a contract to serve the Government or the Private sector of Malta upon completion of the Course.
Application from Government and Parastatal employees and from the private sector will not be considered unless recommended by their Head of Department/Employer respectively.
Late applications will not be considered.
The board’s decision will be final.

The Education Forum of Asia was created with the vision of promoting a more relevant, more dynamic, and higher quality of education in Asia. Through the identification and development of lifelong learning and other educational opportunities the forum seeks to assist populations adjust to the rapidly changing work environment. The Education Forum has successfully collected many scholarship quotas from a number of universities around China. Non-Chinese nationals, including from Maltese nationals, may apply to follow courses available including undergraduate courses, general scholar courses, and Chinese language courses.

Call for PapersThe 2013 Department of Psychology Conference, in association with BetaPsi, aims to provide a forum for local researchers, practitioners, and other professionals to present and share their work with colleagues from industry, academia, and government. The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Psychological Health and Wellbeing’. Abstracts for oral presentations (20 minutes) relating to the theme are invited. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, psychosocial wellbeing, psychopathology, psychotherapy, social and family wellbeing, social policy, community and socio-political development, and wellbeing at work. Abstracts should not exceed 150 words, and should include a clear articulation of the research question framed in psychological literature, a methodological description of the empirical procedure, and a concise overview of the main findings. Presentations from students, graduates, academics, and practitioners in psychology or associated disciplines are equally welcome.

Poster Competition 2013: Call for Papers on EU Cohesion Policy (Deadline: 31 May)
The Directorate-General for Regional & Urban Policy, European Commission, and the Regional Studies Association, call for the submission of abstracts on themes related to EU Cohesion Policy. Postgraduates and early career researchers interested in European Cohesion Policy are being invited to apply to present their research at the 11th OPEN DAYS 2013 European Week of Cities and Region, to be held on 7-10 October 2013. Six shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend this event and showcase their research via a poster on 8 October 2013 in Brussels.
For your information the aim of this event is to improve understanding of EU Cohesion Policy and its research potential among European postgraduate students and early career researchers. Specifically, the objectives are; to present the latest developments in research on European regional and urban development and EU Cohesion Policy; to enable postgraduates and early career researchers (ECR) to exchange views with EU politicians, officials and senior academics in the field of European regional and urban development and policy; to help create networking links among postgraduates/ECR from different countries and with the wider EU policy and academic communities; and to raise awareness and understanding of the research potential in the field of EU Cohesion Policy.
Please note that candidates must either be completing a PhD or have completed a PhD in the last 5 years. To apply, a 1,000 word (max) abstract and a current CV (both in English) should be sent by email to the Regional Studies Association. The deadline for submitting these documents is 31 May 2013. Scholarships in Italy 2013-2014 (Deadline: 31 May)
The Italian Government is offering 30 months of scholarships, carrying an allowance of €800, for language courses, graduate and postgraduate studies, art, music and Italian culture, to be availed of during the academic year 2013/14. Detailed information can be found online.

Next Generation Sequencing (17-20 May)
A webcast course in Next Generation Sequencing is going to be held between the 17 and 20 May.
This course aims to give students insight into the use of next generation sequencing technology for genetic studies in humans. Aimed at researchers and diagnostics personnel with a background in genetics, biology, biomedical & molecular sciences and/or computational biology.

Territorial Co-operation for Growth and Jobs (Deadline: 22 May)
The Coordination Unit of the ESPON 2013 Programme is organising an Open Seminar on 'Territorial Co-operation for Growth and Jobs' which will take place in Dublin (Dublin Castle), Ireland on 13 and 14 June 2013 and is inviting policy makers, practitioners, scientists and experts, who want to know more about the ESPON evidence or who are already involved in defining, producing and using the results of ESPON. The Seminar is open for all, but has a maximum capacity of 230 participants. It is free of charge but each participant has to cover expenses for their own travel arrangements and accommodation.
This Seminar will address the main policy concerns in 2013, in particular the contribution of Territorial Cooperation towards recovery from the economic crisis as well as the development of Operational Programmes for the 2014-2020 period which is currently in a key moment.
The purpose of this ESPON seminar is two-fold:
- allow policy makers, practitioners and researchers to share concrete experiences, discuss the use of territorial evidence and to identify options relevant to the Seminar theme
- demonstrate the usefulness and capability of the ESPON knowledge base at this critical juncture between programming periods.

Debates@thevilla (15 May)
The Malta Council for Science and Technology is organising the first debate in a monthly series called ‘Debates@thevilla’. The first debate will focus on the stipend system, whether it is sustainable, or whether more funds should be allocated to research. It will take place on 15 May 2013 at 1830hrs, at Villa Bighi, Kalkara.

Scholarships in Japan 2014/2015 (Deadline: 6 Jun.)
The Government of Japan is offering one two-year scholarship to a Maltese graduate student who wishes to study at a Japanese University as a research student under the Japanese Government Scholarship Programme for the academic years 2014-2016 (April 2014 - March 2016), in various subjects within the field of Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Subjects must be one of those available at Japanese Universities. One copy of the explanatory note, the application form, the application attachment, the field of study and study program, the recommendation form and the certificate of health are needed. The above documentation can be downloaded by the candidates from the website (under the Research Students section).
Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language, interested in Japan and enthusiastic about deepening his/her understanding of Japan after arriving and capable of engaging in study and research while adapting himself/herself to life in Japan. Applicants are also required to contact a professor of the Japanese university where they wish to study and obtain a letter of acceptance.
