A Nation of Immigrants – From Many, One (Deadline: 15 May)
US Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley would like to invite the University of Malta to participate in an exhibition entitled 'A Nation of Immigrants – From Many, One.'
The goal of this initiative is to underscore the strong relationship between the US and Malta, and to highlight the role that immigration plays in these communities. The US Embassy seeks to create a visual portrayal of these US-Malta connections to show how both countries have benefited from emigration/immigration. Residence names that refer to the US or the flying of the US flag on rooftops provide an evocative visualization for the strong ties between Maltese/Gozitan-Americans and the US.
There are two ways to participate in this exhibition:
- providing a visual presentation, i.e. photograph, painting, drawing, video, of a residence in Malta or Gozo with a US-inspired name together with a brief narrative to accompany the image (500 words maximum), written or recorded, that explains the significance of the residence’s name. Participants may wish to explain the reasons for immigrating to the US, their experiences there, flying of the American flag at a residence, the reason for returning to Malta, etc.
- writing a brief narrative (500 words maximum) or record a video about the connection to the US, accompanying the story with a visual presentation, i.e. photograph, painting, drawing, video. All presentations (written and/or visual) will be displayed during two receptions hosted by Ambassador Abercrombie-Winstanley – one in Gozo and one in Malta.
The deadline for submission of the entry is Wednesday 15 May, 2013.
All entries should be sent to the US Embassy, Ta' Qali National Park, Ta' Qali, ATD 4000. Receptions will be held in late May/early June 2013.
The US Embassy will publicize the events in traditional and social media, including Facebook and Twitter. By submitting an entry, participants agree to the usage of any submission in these venues.
