First Session: Tuesday 26 January 2016, 18:30hrs, VO Centre (Valletta)
The first of a set of three sessions during which our member Leonard Ellul-Mercer will be describing the methods and techniques for shooting and processing astronomical images.
During this first session we shall go through a brief description of different telescopes used for imaging as well as the different types of cameras and related accessories - their purpose and how to use them for imaging. The actual cameras will be on display. Non-members are also invited to attend this lecture - an excellent opportunity to get first hand information from someone whose cameras have spent thousands of hours imaging the night (and day) skies!
The second session will deal with the imaging of planets (Jupiter opposition coming up in early March), the Moon, deep sky objects and solar imaging. The third and final session will be a hands-on workshop where participants can bring their own laptops. Raw images (ie. as shot directly by the cameras from the telescope) will be distributed for processing - or you may also bring your own images. Dates for the second and third sessions shall be advised in February and March.
Leonard Ellul-Mercer has been observing the night sky for over twenty years and has shot hundreds of astronomical images. A selection of these may be seen on his website and his online gallery.
This event shall be held at the Volunteer Centre (upper part of Melita Street, Valletta). Location map.
