Abstract
In an industrial setting, there are a number of unique considerations when considering Design and Innovation when compared to a theoretical approach. These challenges need to be approached carefully to reconcile proper design/innovation practices with the realities of business and industry. As cost and time become the dominant factors when it comes to design, innovation is used to stand out in a crowded marketplace, whilst also driving new ways of thinking.
Toly is a global group working within the cosmetic packaging sector, that has chosen to adopt Innovation in Design as one of its core competency to further drive growth. The presentation will explain the overall strategy, as well as some of the tools and techniques used to achieve this goal. Some case studies will be shown to better demonstrate how innovation works at a practical level, and better understand the challenges faced by innovators in an industrial setting. The presentation will be followed by a guided tour at the Toly Innovation Centre.
