MIGRATING SPACES is an interdisciplinary exhibition production exploring the “choreography of space” fusing art, architecture, and dance. Ideas interrogate the notion of kinespheres inspired by choreographer Rudolf Laban who drew forms based on the body’s pivotal movement using the solar plexus as axis of the body.
Migrating Spaces is planned as a roaming production and is directed by artist Ruth Bianco in collaboration with architect Daniel Muscat together with choreographer Kristina Ann Schranz of Dance Project Studios. Thirty-three B.Sc. graduate students of architecture and urban design at the University of Malta have produced spatial assemblages for outdoor installation, integrating a joint piece by Ruth Bianco and Daniel Muscat.
Sited in Gnien Stellini, Balzan’s piazza garden, it will form an integral part of this enchanting town’s Arts and Music Festival with three dance interventions through the evening. Following the event, the artworks will remain on display till the end of October, 2017.
This exhibition production is this year’s edition of Art-in-Architecture, an art-based research and exhibition framework exploring the creative interface between art and architecture. It has been realised at the kind invitation of Dr Ian Spiteri, Mayor of Balzan Local Council and Daniel Muscat, Council Member for Youth and Culture. Special thanks go to our generous sponsors: Pillow Spaceframe Ltd, Dance Project Studios, Valletta'18 Foundation, Malta Tourism Authority, University of Malta.
