With US President Donald Trump’s administration undoing decades of environmental policy as we speak, the topics of climate change, our natural world, and the environment are on everyone’s lips. We’re joining the conversation with the next edition of THINKtalks on Friday 29 September at Hastings Gardens in Valletta for this year’s Science in the City Festival.
Researchers at the University of Malta are working hard to create solutions that will help us live more sustainably. We have invited three of them to THINKtalks. Dr Aaron Micallef is currently working on the MARCAN project which focuses on pockets of freshwater which have been found under the sea. This could be a solution to some of Malta’s issues when it comes to its depleted water table. Meanwhile, Antoine Gatt is leading the LifeMedGreenRoof Project which hopes to see gardens sitting atop every roof on the island, helping people reduce not only flooding but even their electricity bills. Finally, Prof. Joseph N. Grima will share his work in auxetics, a field of research in materials that grow fatter when stretched, and tell us more about how important it is to keep knowledge open and shared.
