The Faculty for the Built Environment, in collaboration with the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy and the Environmental Management and Planning Division of the Institute of Earth Systems, is organising a half-day seminar entitled 'Moving towards a Resilient Economy and Urban Environment'.
The seminar, which is possibly the first of its kind, aspires to bring together policy-makers, including members of parliament, with academics from disciplines of economy and urban planning. The objective is to discuss how mainstream economic models can be substituted by a 'green' economy which would render urban environments more resilient in the context of the current environmental and climatic challenges.
A number of foreign and local expert speakers and lecturers will be delivering presentations on current economic models and how these can be substituted by a green economy which aims at reducing environmental risks without degrading the environment. The discussion will look at how the current philosophy in urban planning would benefit the economy without eroding the urban quality of life.
Following the presentations, the floor will be open for discussions.
The seminar is scheduled for Saturday 2 April and will be chaired by Professor Alex Torpiano, Dean of the Faculty for the Built Environment. It will be held at the Aula Magna, University of Malta, St Paul Street, Valletta from 08:30 till 14:00.
