Monday 8 May

Janek Niggemann,
Alice Salomon University of Applied Science, Berlin
The next seminar of the University of Malta’s WIPSS, in its 20th anniversary year, will be on Monday 8 May at 18:00 in the Faculty of Arts Library, and will be given by Janek Niggemann.
Janek Niggemann writes:
‘In this seminar I will focus on Gramsci’s perspective concerning the reproduction of hegemonic consensus through educational praxis. We will take a closer look at how a deeper understanding of authority helps to strengthen the claims of critical education. A sensitive approach to authority supports the self-education processes that are necessary to break the violent circle of subordination under capitalist realism.’
Janek Niggemann (Magister Artium in Educational Science) works for the Study Department of Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, as a lecturer at Alice Salomon University of Applied Science Berlin, and is finishing his PhD on ‘Battles about Hegemony and Pedagogical Authority in Civil Society’. He is co-editor of Gramsci Lesen – Einstiege in die Gefängnishefte, an introductory reader on Gramsci.
Monday 8 May from 18:00 to 19:00, followed by discussion. In Faculty of Arts Library, at the end of the second floor, Old Humanities Building. Students are encouraged to attend. The public is cordially invited.
