The M.A. in Film Studies of the University of Malta, offered by the Faculty of Arts, is proud to announce the public talk ‘Script to Screen: A Beginner’s Guide to Screenwriting’ by Dr Tom Craig.
The public talk will be held on Wednesday 17 May in the Faculty of Arts Library, Old Humanities Building at the University of Malta, Msida Campus, at 17:00.
In this illustrated talk Dr Tom Craig will discuss how to approach writing your first feature film script. Whilst his talk is aimed at those with little to no experience of screen craft, it will be equally useful to more established writers who wish to take their work to the next level. Drawing on his vast experience as a writer, academic, production consultant, and evaluator for the Malta Film Commission, Dr Craig will cover topics ranging from structure and pacing, to characterisation, and dialogue.
Tom Craig commenced his professional career in 1997 when he began teaching Film, Media and Cultural Studies at Nottingham Trent University. Since then he has taught at a number of high profile educational institutions and has given guest lectures, workshops and seminars throughout Europe. He joined the University of Derby in 2004 where he now runs one of the country’s most sought after Film Production programmes. Dr Craig is also an accomplished writer and producer in his own right. Through his work for the Malta Film Commission, he has been involved in the successful financing of over thirty short films, features and documentaries. He has also worked as a mentor for several major film productions. In 2016 he establish Aria Films; a global film consultancy company. Tom Craig is regularly featured on British television and radio in relation to both his own work and his knowledge of film as a medium.
The general public is cordially invited to the event.
