As part of its ongoing work in promoting quality assurance (QA) at the University of Malta, the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) hosted Dr Chris Haslam on 28 and 29 April 2016. Dr Haslam has extensive experience in quality assurance for higher education; he is Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Chester University, with responsibilities that include student experience and quality assurance. He was previously Deputy Director for the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
Two seminars on the development of a university quality culture were led by Dr Haslam, one with deans, directors and heads of department, and one with senior administrative management and officers in charge. Both events were well-attended and there was a healthy discussion on the implications of quality assurance in a university. The importance of the involvement of all staff in the University's ambitions for a quality environment was particularly stressed.
Dr Haslam also conducted a workshop with the QAC in which the structures and mechanisms needed to implement a university quality culture were explored.
