The University of Malta and Identity Malta Agency have entered into a Collaboration Agreement through which the University is assisting the Agency in the organisation of a tailor-made training opportunity for its staff.
The course on ‘Aspects of Civil Law and Practice’ is being accredited as a Unit within the University’s Programme in the Liberal Arts and Sciences (PLAS). The areas covered include registration of birth, marriages and death, passports, citizenship, immigration, and related processes of registrations and permits. The ‘stand-alone’ Unit has a value of 4ECTS credits, which will count towards awards in the Programme should participants wish to register for other PLAS Units.
The signing of the Collaboration Agreement took place on 28 July at the University. Rector, Professor Alfred J. Vella, and the Director of the Centre for the Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dr Jean-Paul De Lucca, signed on behalf of the University. The signatories on behalf of Identity Malta Agency were Mr Joe Vella Bonnici, Executive Chairman, and Ms Gertrude Spiteri, Chief Officer (Human Resources).
The training course on ‘Aspects of Civil Law and Practice’ is currently being followed by 19 senior members of staff from Identity Malta.
University Rector, Prof. Vella, welcomed the Collaboration Agreement as a way of furthering the University’s commitment to reach out to state entities, non-governmental organisations and other partners with a view to contributing to their professional development. Noting that the Centre for the Liberal Arts and Sciences has already entered into similar agreements, the Rector said that the University is always open to explore possibilities of collaboration. He also thanked the Department of Civil Law for its assistance.
Identity Malta Chairman, Mr Vella Bonnici, thanked the University for the opportunity to accredit this training course which, he said, will contribute to the professional development of Identity Malta staff. “Through such an agreement with the University, the Agency ensures that the training course provided is of a high academic standard. The knowledge obtained through this course will assist staff by providing a broader context to their duties," he concluded.
