The University of Malta Cottonera Resource Centre won the EPALE Award for outstanding community learning initiative. During the ceremony which was held on 20 October, the Hon. Ian Borg, Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds and 2017 Presidency, presented the award.
The University of Malta Cottonera Resource Centre is a multidisciplinary centre which provides a systemic and mulit-targeted approach, engaging the community, schools and the University. During the event, Dr JosAnn Cutajar, Director of the Centre explained that the Centre provides outreach in the community by setting up diverse sites for learning while providing opportunities for the development of socially and culturally sensitive academic, research and teaching projects.
'The courses offered at the resource centre draw people from all walks of life; from individuals at risk of poverty and social exclusion to those interested in furthering their skills and job mobility. Although a new initiative, the Centre is yielding positive results in terms of personal empowerment, active citizenship, employment mobility and leadership development', she stated.
