The Faculty for Social Wellbeing organised its annual Dean's Award Ceremony, which was presided by the Dean, Dr Andrew Azzopardi. Prof. Joe Cacciottolo, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs, was present at this delightful evening held in the Auditorium at the University of Malta Valletta Campus, attended by over 140 guests: academic and administrative staff, students, family members and sponsors.
This year’s award winners for the Dean’s List were undergraduate students Raymond Cassar, Josef Galea, Lara Portelli and Maryanne Scicluna while the Outstanding Masters’ Students Award went to Marisabelle Camilleri, Karl Grech, Leonard Griscti, Maria Mercieca, Elenaz Rezai, Elaine Schembri Lia, Anabele Scolaro and Mario George Vella.
The Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity, the Hon. Dr Michael Farrugia, presented the Social Commitment Award to Jennifer Cauchi. The other nominees for this award were Solange Abela, Martha Falzon, Luke Farrugia, Fabianne Mihajlovic, Anthony Scerri and Annabelle Xerri.
The Hon. Dr Helena Dalli, Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties, and the Head of the Department of Criminology, Prof. Saviour Formosa, presented the award for Social Engagement to Kristina Zammit following an electronic poll among 1,200 members of staff and students. The other nominees for this award were George Busuttil, Mgr Philip Calleja, Martin Diacono, Dr Lara Dimitrijevic, Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, Dr Roberta Lepre, Connie Magro and Rita Borg.
The event was compered by Olivia Lewis, a student reading a Masters with the Department of Counselling. The programme included poetry reading; the poems written by Dr Charles Pace who is an academic member of staff at the Faculty's Department of Social Policy and Social Work. During the evening there were also music interludes by Gemima (student with the Department of Psychology) and a performance by the choir EnKor (includes two Psychology students).
