Associate Professor Suzanne Piscopo has been nominated member of the Strategic Advisory Committee of the NNEdPro Global Centre for Nutrition and Health.
The NNEdPro Global Centre was established in 2008 out of the University of Cambridge and is a highly innovative think-tank, training academy and knowledge network, bringing together the best of education, research, evaluation and advocacy, particularly in nutrition-related aspects of health and healthcare systems.
One of NNEdPro’s strategic goals is to develop, provide and evaluate the impact of nutrition education for medical and health care professionals, building sustainable capacity and driving implementation of knowledge into policy and practice. The ultimate goal is to use nutrition education as a health improvement tool, resulting in significantly improved health practices and outcomes.
Among other projects, in recent years NNEdPro has been organising an Annual Summit and an Annual Summer School for health professionals with a focus on applied nutrition and nutrition education.
Prof. Suzanne Piscopo joins a number of eminent members on the NNEdPro Advisory Committee, including representatives of the University of Cambridge Wolfson College and Health Partners, the University of Ulster, the British Dietetic Association, and Godan -- Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition. Suzanne Piscopo is Immediate Past President of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior, who is one of the NNEdPro partners, and Head of the Department of the Health, Physical Education and Consumer Studies within the Faculty of Education of the University of Malta.
Speaking about her nomination Prof. Piscopo said, 'My goal is to try to act as a bridge between our university, relevant health authorities, SNEB and NNEdPro in order to strengthen local and international nutrition education capacity of medical and health professionals. These professionals have a crucial role to play in translating current and accurate scientific nutrition evidence into practical information for their patients. As a nutritionist, home economist and educator I hope to contribute my own insights as to how this process can be rendered even more effective.'
