Between 1 and 3 March 2017, the University of Oviedo, with the participation of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, the University of Bergen, the University of Nantes and the University of Malta, hosted the International Conference 'II Jornada de Cine y Lengua Italiana'. Prof. Gloria Lauri-Lucente and Dr Fabrizio Foni from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Malta sent a video presentation in Italian on the relationship between comics and film which was screened during the conference.
The presentation entitled 'Dylan Dog: trent’anni di cinema a strisce', focused on the comic-book series 'Dylan Dog', published by Sergio Bonelli Editore, the most prestigious comics publishing house in Italy.
Drawing on various cinematic genres, in particular thrillers and horror movies, among others, the 'Dylan Dog' series which was created by the multifaceted genius of Tiziano Sclavi has recently celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. It is considered to have been—and still is—an important 'alternative' cultural mediator for several generations of teenagers. Through the comparison between panels from the comic-book series and a number of film clips, the speakers discussed more specifically how even the complex imagination of such a director as Luis Buñuel left its visible mark on 'Dylan Dog'.
