The 2014 book, Lorenzo Milani, the School of Barbiana and the Struggle for Social Justice (Peter Lang, New York) and co-authored by Professors Federico Batini, University of Perugia, Peter Mayo, University of Malta and Alessio Surian, University of Padova, has just been published in Portuguese translation in Brazil. It has been published as Lorenzo Milani – A Escola Barbiana e a luta por justiça social. Translated by André Cechinel and Rafael Rodrigo Muellert, the book has been published jointly by Ediunesc and Editora UFSC, the publishing houses of the Universidade Estadal de Santa Catarina and the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina respectively.
The book contains a Foreword to the Brazilian edition by Ana Maria Araujo Freire, known as Nita Freire and widow of Brazilian educator, Paulo Freire. It also contains a translated Portuguese version of the Preface, written in English for the original version, by Roger Dale, from the universities of Bristol and Auckland.

This is the second book by Professor Peter Mayo that has been translated into Portuguese in Brazil. In 2004, his Gramsci, Freire and Adult Education. Possibilities for Transformative Action (Zed Books, London, 1999) was published as Gramsci, Freire e a educação de adultos: possibilidades para uma ação transformadora by Arte Medicas Editora (ArtMed), Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul - one of seven foreign translations of this book which went into reprint in its original English version.
